83% of Quebecers and 75% of Canadians Want the Government to Mandate More Vacation Days

83% of Quebecers and 75% of Canadians want the government to mandate more vacation days. Wow for a party that is tanking in Quebec that would seem like a winning issue. So what hell is taking the Liberals so long? Get on it. The EU minimum is 4 weeks. Canadians deserve no less.

“Three-in-four Canadians want a longer minimum vacation time”

“Four-in-five Quebeckers (83%) say they want labour laws to be changed to provide more minimum vacation time to Canadians,”

This just in!!

78% of Canadians don't want to have to work at all.

89% of Canadians want to make a million dollars a year.

Ever heard of reasonable fiscal policy. Good luck attracting and retaining businesses in this country if you legislate massive increases to expenditures. We're already in trouble trying to compete in a world market.

The sky is falling the sky is falling. Look no one believes your bullshit. Every other Western country does just fine with 4 weeks plus.

Late 2005 "The pace of Canadian corporate earnings growth will exceed not only the U.S. but all other major global regions next year, and the projected strength is not confined to the energy sector, says a report by UBS Securities Canada Inc.

While it is true that earnings in the energy sector are expected to be faster than anywhere else, less appreciated is the fact that non-energy earnings are also expected to lead their global peers," UBS chief strategist George Vasic and analyst Garry Cooper wrote in a 2006 forecast.

Canadian companies will increase their profits by 17.4 per cent on a year-over-year basis, UBS said, compared with a 2006 global growth forecast of 12.1 per cent.

Earnings expectations for the rest of the regions scrutinized by UBS” the U.S., the United Kingdom, the rest of Europe, Japan, the remainder of Asia, and Latin American ” range from 11 to 14 per cent.

I think anonymous is right. Canadian's do want to make more money and not have to work for it.

However if we are looking toward winning policy, I would suggest that we slap a set of Un-Fair Trade Sanctions on multi-national Corps and the US Government, where we can prove they are protecting their Canadian marketers from competing with their American marketers.

Given the apparent 24% difference across the border and that our dollar is now at par and simple for the average Canadian to figure the math, and that 90% of Canadian's live within a short jaunt of the border, I think we have just found the winning conditions for a popular policy.

No need to thank me.

Tomm only the US mandates less vacation days than Canada. It is simply ridiculous to claim that mandating 4 weeks instead of two is some how “fiscally unreasonable”. As for anonymous's tongue and cheek intro, it should be noted that most Canadians would prefer more vacation days to a raise. This polls shows it and every other poll I have seen on the subject shows it.

Tommm: As for other proposal, it has some merit. However, I think that market forces and law suits will do a far better job of correcting the problem then the House of Commons.
